Are You Experiencing Professional Burnout?
Maybe...
✓ You're exhausted even after a full night's sleep
✓ You can't switch off your mind at night - it replays every conversation, every decision
✓ Weekends don't restore you anymore
✓ You feel cynical about work that used to matter
✓ You're irritable with people who don't deserve it
✓ Small tasks feel overwhelming
✓ You're making mistakes you wouldn't normally make
✓ You feel emotionally flat, and you can't access joy or enthusiasm
✓ You're fantasising about quitting but don't know what else you'd do
✓ You're worried about how long you can keep this up
What's Really Happening When You're Burnt Out
Burnout isn't laziness. It isn't weakness. It isn't a productivity problem you can optimise your way out of.
Burnout is what happens when your nervous system has been in threat mode for too long.
Your body has been running the same stress response - day after day, meeting after meeting, deadline after deadline - without enough recovery time.
Eventually, your system shuts down parts of itself to protect you. That's the exhaustion. That's the inability to feel enthusiasm. That's the cynicism and detachment.
It's not a failing. It's a nervous system response.
How We Address Burnout
Every person's burnout is different.
We'll assess what's driving yours and use the approach that fits.
For accumulated burnout (chronic pressure over time): We use psychotherapy to understand what your nervous system has been carrying, challenge the beliefs keeping you stuck (perfectionism, people-pleasing, impossible standards), and build practical tools for nervous system regulation.
For burnout with a specific trigger: Sometimes burnout intensified after a specific incident; redundancy, toxic boss, public failure, restructure. If there's a specific moment that tipped you over, we can use EMDR to process that incident while working on broader burnout patterns with therapy.
Often it's both: You've been carrying chronic pressure for years, AND there was a specific moment when it became too much. We can address both.
You don't need to figure out which category you're in.
That's what the free consultation is for.

What to Expect in Burnout Therapy
First session: We assess what's driving the burnout. Is it accumulated pressure, a specific trigger, or both? You'll understand what's happening in your nervous system. Why rest doesn't restore you. Why you can't switch off. Why small things feel overwhelming. You'll leave with practical tools to use immediately - grounding techniques, nervous system regulation strategies, ways to create micro-recovery moments in your day.
Ongoing sessions: You'll understand what's happening in your nervous system. You'll learn practical tools. We'll work on the deeper patterns keeping you stuck:
- Perfectionism ("If it's not perfect, I've failed")
- People-pleasing ("I can't say no")
- Achievement addiction ("My worth = my output")
- Limiting beliefs ("If I stop, I'm weak")
Every session combines emotional understanding with practical shifts.
Timeline: Some clients work with me short-term (8-12 sessions) to stabilise and learn strategies. Others continue longer-term for deeper pattern work around perfectionism, people-pleasing, or limiting beliefs.
It depends on what you need.
Why I Understand Professional Burnout
I spent 25 years in corporate environments where burnout was normalised.
I've been the one carrying impossible targets while managing a team. I've felt the pressure of always being "on." I've experienced what it's like when your nervous system won't switch off.
I understand this isn't a time management problem. It's not about working smarter. It's about a nervous system that's been under threat for too long.
And I know what it takes to actually recover; not just take a weekend off and feel guilty about it.
I model sustainable practice: I only work with 16-20 clients a week. I don't burn out while helping others recover from burnout.
That's the kind of sustainability I help you build.

Questions About Burnout Therapy
Q: Can therapy help if I've tried to just "snap out of it" but nothing works?
Yes. Because burnout isn't something you can willpower your way out of. It's not a motivation problem. It's a nervous system problem. Your body has been under threat for too long. That's not something you can "snap out of." It's something you need to address differently.
Q: What if I feel too exhausted to even talk some days?
That's completely understandable. We can adjust sessions based on your energy. Some days we talk more. Some days we focus on grounding exercises or psychoeducation. You're not expected to show up performing well. Therapy is where you don't have to.
Q: How long will it take before I start feeling better?
This varies for everyone. Some clients notice small shifts within 4-6 sessions: sleeping slightly better, feeling less on edge, having more capacity for small frustrations. Deeper recovery typically takes 12-20 sessions. I'll be honest with you about realistic timelines.
Q: Can I recover from burnout without quitting my job?
Often, yes. Burnout isn't always about the job itself. It's about how you're relating to the job; the impossible standards you're holding, the lack of boundaries, the belief that your worth = your output. Sometimes the job genuinely is unsustainable. But often, the job can stay while your relationship to it changes.
Q: Do you accept private medical insurance?
Yes. I'm registered with Vitality, AXA Health, Aviva, and WPA. Many professionals have their sessions fully covered through their employer's health insurance scheme. I provide detailed invoices and treatment summaries for insurance claims.
